Can Tap Cards Malfunction?

Our cards are hard-coded, meaning the the transfer of information is not dependent on a live server, cell phone service, or wifi to function. That eliminates a huge category of potential risk.  Neither Wifi or cell phone service (like 4G, 5G, or LTE) directly impact tap cards.  NFC operates on a short-range, radio-frequency communication, and it does not require an internet connection or cellular service to function.

We recommend that a person uses a phone to confirm cards are connected to the VisitorReach Dashboard as soon as they arrive. Once that is confirmed, the card/sticker would only malfunction if it was tampered with or damaged in some way. Then, you would simply replace the card. This is why we recommend purchasing extra cards because accidents happen. If a card were ever physically damaged or lost—just like a QR code—it’s a simple replacement. No different than replacing a business card or a damaged sign.

Most often a card not working is due to user error - the link was entered incorrectly in the dashboard or the user tapped the card too quickly.
