Regaining Facebook Page Access

There are 3 ways your access to a Facebook page can be limited.

  1. No Access: You don’t have any permissions to the page.
  2. Limited Access: You have some permissions but lack full control.
  3. Admin Access Without Business Manager Access: You’re an admin for the page but don’t have access to the Business Manager, which applies only to pages managed through a Business Manager.

Determine who has page ownership

Step 1: Open your Facebook page

The first step is to determine who does have access to the page. Begin by opening Facebook and, if you aren’t already, log in. On the top right of the page will be your profile photo. Select the drop down arrow next to it.



Below your personal profile, you will see other pages you have access to. If you don’t see your page listed, select “See all profiles”.

If, when viewing the full list, your page still isn’t listed, you don’t have access to the page. Skip to section 2 and attempt to contact the current admin. If you do see your page, select it and move to step 2.

Step 2: Determine page ownership

Once you have switched to the page profile, on the top left of the screen, select the page profile photo to open the page.

Then, on the left hand side, open the settings.

Once in the page settings, open the page setup.


Then, open page access.


Now you will be able to see who has access to the page and what permissions they have.


Under “People with Facebook Access” you will see all the people assigned to the page and the permissions level for each.

It’s also possible for the page to be connected to a Business Manager (which Facebook has recently renamed as the Business Portfolio.) In the instance above, there aren’t any individuals assigned to the page and instead the page is entirely managed through the Business Manager. If your page is connected to a business manager, skip to step 3.

If you have people assigned to the page it will look like this under the “People with Facebook access”:


If you don’t have “Page Deletion” access, you are not an admin of the page. Look and see who does have page deletion access and contact them to add you as an admin.

Step 3: See if you have access to the business manager

If the page is managed by a business manager, check to see if you have access to the business manager. Begin by going to business.facebook.com. Select the drop down arrow on the top left. If you don’t see the business manager in the drop down list, you don’t have access.

Attempt to contact the current admin

If, after going through the above process you find that you don’t have access to the page, you will need to attempt to contact the current admin. Working with Facebook to reinstate access can be extremely challenging so we highly recommend attempting to have the current administrator give you access before reaching out to Facebook.

If you don’t have any permissions to the page, or if the page is managed by a business manager that you don’t have access to, you won’t be able to see who it is that has admin access. The best course of action is to reach out to people that may have had access previously.

If you have limited permissions to the page, and the page is managed by individual accounts (and not a business manager), you should be able to see who has “Page Deletion” rights – that’s who you will need to contact.

If you are able to contact the current admin, have them give you admin permissions. If not, proceed to the next step.

Submitting an appeal to Facebook

The most common scenario is that the page is managed by a business manager that you don’t have access to. If this is the case, here are the steps to recover access to the business manager:

To submit an appeal you will need 3 pieces of documentation. You will need:

  • A signed letter expressing your request
  • A copy of your ID
  • A bill proving the address of your organization

Here are the requirements for each document:

The Letter

The letter must be on company letterhead with the company logo, name, address, and phone number. The letter must also be signed with a signature that matches the signature on the ID card. E-signatures do not work. The letter must state:

  • A description of your relationship to the Page (including your authority to request a change in the person(s) who manage the Page, as applicable);
  • The name of the current person(s) who manages the Page, (if you know who it is, which you likely don’t).
  • An explanation of your request, and why you no longer have contact with the previous admin.
  • The name of the Business Manager that owns the Page (if you know it) and the URL of the page.
  • A statement that the partner does not know who any admins are on the Business Manager and cannot contact them.
  • A declaration that the information you have provided is true and accurate (e.g. "I certify that the information provided is true and accurate") - your statement must include similar language.
  • All documentation supporting your request (including any screenshots or videos to provide context)

The ID

A copy of a valid government-issued photo ID matching the name of the Page Admin, such as a current driver's license or a passport, is required. If a US driver’s license is used, include a photo of both sides of the ID. Cover the ID number either with a small piece of paper when you take the photo or by blacking it out after the photo is taken.

The Bill

Finally, you will need a copy of a recent bill that confirms your business’ residence, like a utility bill.

Submitting the documentation

Before submitting your documentation, all of the documents need to be combined together into a single PDF. To open a support case, go to the Facebook Business Help Center. Open a support case and request an admin dispute for the business manager.
