Tap Products on Metal Surfaces

Metal can disrupt the functionality of NFC.

Certain metals can interfere with the function of electromagnetic field technology used for communication between the tag and a smartphone. When a NFC tag is adhered directly on metal, the signal can be either disrupted or completely blocked, causing the tag to become unreliable or unresponsive.

Do not attach cards directly to metal.

The NFC signal will be blocked when a card is in contact with metal.  Tap cards can be adhered to any portion of the chair that is not metal. So chairs can have metal frames or metal arms, the NFC chip simply can not be in direct  contact with it

Cards can be used on metal if the back is fully covered in velcro.

Velcro acts as a buffer between the metal and the NFC signal. Partial coverage or using thinner double sided tape will not be enough to make the card function consistently.  We recommend using a 2inch wide velcro strip running the full length of the tap card. See velcro product here. In our testing, full velcro coverage of the back of the card has worked, but please test your sample packs on your own chairs. We are happy to book a call to help make the best decision for the right products for your church.
