How to Keep Stickers Secure on Fabric, Wood and Plastic.

How to Prep Fabric Seats

If you're placing a VisitorTap sticker on a cloth surface (like a fabric seat or chair), prepping the area makes all the difference. Cloth naturally has dust, lint, and tiny fibers that can weaken the sticker’s grip. Here's how to help your sticker last longer:

  • Lint Roll First: Before placing your sticker, use a lint roller to thoroughly clean the area. This removes loose fibers, dust, and dirt that could interfere with adhesion.
  • Add Extra Strength: For even better results, apply a tiny dab of permanent washable fabric glue to your sticker before applying it. We recommend this glue on Amazon. Just a small amount is enough! Press and hold the sticker firmly for a few seconds.

How to Prep Wood and Plastic Surfaces

If you're placing stickers on wood or plastic prep is still important. Here’s what you should do:

  • Wipe down the surface with a clean cloth.
  • Use a mild cleaner (like a little soap and water or rubbing alcohol) to remove any oils, dust, or grime.
  • Dry completely before sticking.

Metal Surfaces

Metal can disrupt the functionality of NFC.  Certain metals can interfere with the function of electromagnetic field technology used for communication between the tag and a smartphone. When a NFC tag is adhered directly on metal, the signal can be either disrupted or completely blocked, causing the tag to become unreliable or unresponsive.

Do not attach cards directly to metal. The NFC signal will be blocked when a card is in contact with metal.  Tap cards can be adhered to any portion of the chair that is not metal. So chairs can have metal frames or metal arms, the NFC chip simply can not be in direct  contact with it

Cards can be used on metal if the back is fully covered in velcro. Velcro acts as a buffer between the metal and the NFC signal. Partial coverage or using thinner double sided tape will not be enough to make the card function consistently.  We recommend using a 2inch wide velcro strip running the full length of the tap card. See velcro product here. In our testing, full velcro coverage of the back of the card has worked, but please test your sample packs on your own chairs. We are happy to book a call to help make the best decision for the right products for your church.
